You must include the following elements in your Infographic:
§ Title – the infographic must contain a clear and relevant title
§ Topic Statement – an introduction to the topic as well as a clear statement addressing the environmental issue
§ Visuals– supporting information on the environmental issue and a presentation of your research. All information must be referenced. Your Infographic must also include at least:
· 1 geographic map
· 1 graph, chart, or table (e.g.: line graph, bar graph, data table, pie chart)
· Note: The above items cannot come from lecture notes or e-learning modules
§ Text – There must be text supporting the visuals in your Infographic. There is no word limit on the text, but your entire Infographic should present well, and text should be legible when printed on standard or legal-size paper (8.5” x 11” or 8.5” x 14”). Information must be presented in your own words (i.e.: paraphrased) and must be cited appropriately (footnotes are acceptable). Information included in the infographic must be relevant to the topic, be scientifically accurate and use appropriate/scientific terminology.
§ Solutions/How you can Help – the infographic must include solutions to or ways to mitigate the environmental problem
§ References – a list of references used in your research. All information in your Infographic must be referenced, including the sources of graphics/pictures/etc. (footnotes are acceptable). You must also include the reference list within your infographic (usually depicted at the bottom). For the text portion alone, you must use at least 5 reputable sources of information. Lecture notes and e-Learning modules do not count as sources of information. A URL shortener can be used to reduce the amount of space taken by the list of references, but make sure that the link created is stable (i.e.: it always brings the reader to your intended source).
§ Size – must fit on 8.5” x 11” or 8.5” x 14” paper. Text must be legible and graphics of good quality when printed at this size.
§ Note: Remember, your Infographics are visual representations of scientific data. There should be a good balance of text and visuals in your final product (see the Infographic included at the start of these guidelines).
